General Notes: Husband - David Hoge

He was sheriff of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, from October, 1768, to Dec. 31, 1770. Soon after this time, he purchased the Hunter tracts of land in the Chartiers Valley embracing what later became the town of Washington, Pennsylvania. He laid out the town in 1781, and in 1785 sold the most of it to his sons John and William, who removed to Washington and lived and died there, filling important positions of honor and trust. David Hoge, the father, never made Washington his permanent residence.
