General Notes: Husband - James Smith


He was born on the old family farm in Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he remained until he reached the age of maturity. He received his education in the common schools of Washington County, and was fond of historical and current literature. After his marriage he moved onto a farm, which he purchased when his father died.
In political affiliation he was a Whig, first casting his vote for Gen. Harrison, and after its formation was an active member of the Republican party. He was much interested in local politics, and was supervisor and school director for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist Church forty-seven years.
