General Notes: Husband - Rev. Dr. Jackson Burgess McMichael

He received his early education in local schools, afterward attending Westminster College and graduating from that institution in 1859 with the degree of Master of Arts. He next went to Xenia Seminary, and there, in 1862, received the degree of Bachelor of Divinity. He was pastor of Sugar Creek congregation, Greene County, Ohio, 1862 to 1878. He was called in 1878 to the presidency of Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, a position which he filled until 1897. In that year he resigned in order that he might return to the parish he had left nearly twenty years before and there he passed the remainder of his life. In politics he was a Republican, and as a young man had had experience as a teacher, having, during one of his early pastorates, been Professor of Church History in Xenia Seminary. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Presbyterian church in 1895 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

During the Civil War he served as a member of the Christian Commission.
