General Notes: Husband - James C. Sibel
He was born in Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he received his education in the common schools. When he was just eighteen years of age he became connected with the stock business, buying horses and cattle in Westmoreland and Somerset counties and driving them to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He continued this successfully for twenty years, and was one of the largest stock shippers in that part of the country. After retiring from the stock business he engaged for five years in farming in Ligonier township, and then purchased the livery business of Deeds & Lytle, which he conducted until the morning of February 5, 1906, when a fire broke out or was started in the barn, totally destroying it with much valuable property. Fortunately, however, all livestock was saved. In 1900 he was appointed for one year mercantile appraiser by R. N. Gay, of Greensburg, then county commissioner.
In politics he was a Democrat. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church of Stahlstown.
He purchased the livery establishment of Deeds & Lytle. On February 5, 1906, the property was destroyed by fire, the entire live stock, however, being saved. Without delay he opened a real estate office which he conducted for three years. He then returned to the livery business, this time having the assistance of his sons, Leroy E. and John H. D. After conducting the establishment for some time Mr. Sibel withdrew and then assisted his son, Leroy E., in the furniture business, also engaging in his old-time occupation of buying and selling stock.
He was affiliated with Ligonier Lodge, No. 964, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
