He was a soldier in the War of 1812.
His father sold the original farm in Parker township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, to him and his brother, Philip. He received the home buildings and the southern portion of the homestead.
He was the father of eighteen children, of whom ten reached mature years.

She was the mother of eighteen children - and not one pair of twins.
