General Notes: Husband - Harry C. Burket

He was born on the old Burket homestead in Sinking Valley, Blair County, Pennsylvania, and he attended the common schools of that region, later was a student at Birmingham Seminary, and then entered the Curry Institute at Pittsburgh. In 1885 he began his business career in a clerical capacity in a store at Claridge, Pennsylvania, where he remained for a short period of time, and then secured a position with the Manor Gas Coal Company, of Claridge, and later worked as a clerk in the office of the Alexandria Coal Company of Greensburg. Two years after he severed his connection with the latter company, he accepted the position of superintendent of the Banning Mine of The Morgan, Moore & Baine Company of Cleveland, Ohio, with whom he remained until he was offered a similar position with the United Coal & Coke Company. He continued to work in this capacity until the year 1894, when he became one of the organizers of the Atlantic Crushed Coke Company of Greensburg, and upon its establishment was made superintendent. He filled this post for a number of years, and was then elected president of the company. In addition to this concern, Mr. Burket was interested in a number of other important companies in and about the neighborhood, and became prominently identified with a number of these, among which should be mentioned the Greensburg Storage and Transfer Company, of which he was president; the Acme Gas Coal Company and the Marion Gas Coal Company, in both of which he was a director, and he also held the same position with the First National Bank of Greensburg, being regarded as one of the influential figures in the financial circles of Greensburg. In his religious belief, Mr. Burket was a Lutheran and attended Zion Church of Greensburg. He was a member of Philanthropy Lodge, No. 225, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, of Greensburg; Urania Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Kedran Commandery, Knights Templar; Valley of Pittsburgh, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, of Pittsburgh.
