He was a merchant for a number of years; then filled the office of county prothonotary, Westmoreland County, elected on the Democratic ticket, after which he became cashier of the First National Bank of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, in which capacity he served during the remainder of his active career; he took a keen interest in Zion Lutheran Church.
