General Notes: Husband - Wesley P. Roessing
He attended the public schools of Butler until he was thirteen years of age, when his father put him at work in a carriage factory, where he learned the trade of carriage building. In 1872 he became his father's partner both in the carriage building and undertaking business. When his father retired from the firm in 1899, he purchased the entire interests of the concern and continued the business alone until 1906, when he admitted his son to partnership. This company was the first in Butler County to use motorized vehicles for funerals. The undertaking firm was one of the oldest business houses in Butler, owned by three generations of the same family. George C. Roessing was the first man in that section of Pennsylvania to build a hearse, and Wesley P. Roessing was one of the first to effect embalming. Mr. Roessing carried on a cabinet making plant in connection with his funeral work. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
