He was educated in the public schools of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Westminster College, and took various courses in the science of embalming, the business of an undertaker being his aim. He became head of a mortuary business that was established in 1850 by George C. Roessing, his grandfather. It was first located on West Cunningham Street, and about 1870 Wesley P. Roessing, father of Fred T. Roessing, entered the enterprise and the name was changed to Roessing & Son. In 1893 the business was moved to a location on North Main Street. In 1906 Fred T. Roessing was made a member of the firm.
In 1898 Mr. Roessing enlisted in Company E, Fifteenth Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard, for the Spanish-American War.
Mr. Roessing was a member of the Sterling Club of Butler, a member of the Butler Country Club, the Kiwanis Club, B. P. O. He was also a member of the Veterans of the Spanish-American War.
He was sixteen years old when the Spanish-American War was declared, and he enlisted for service, entering Company E, Fifteenth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. In a short time he fell a victim to the prevailing malarial fever, which necessitated his return home, after his honorable discharge.
