He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [HWC 1887, BP xiv, xv]
He was born near Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. [BOB37JD, 220]
He settled at Youngsville, Warren County, Pennsylvania, in 1833, coming from Franklin County.
He and his wife settled in Brokenstraw township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, in 1839, and lived there until their deaths.
He was the last of the eleven soldiers of the War of 1812 in town.
His occupation was that of a lumberman and farmer, in which he was very successful. When a young man he moved to Titusville, Pennsylvania, and there he made the acquaintance of his future wife.
He and his wife had a family of seven children; four were still living in 1887.
