General Notes: Husband - John Edwin Snyder

He was born at Bolivar, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the public schools of his birthplace. He entered upon his business career on a day ever memorable in the history of Western Pennsylvania, the day of the great Johnstown flood. Mr. Snyder's occupation was that of carrying fire-brick from the hand-press to the drying floor, and after working at this for a few years he was employed as fireman, burning brick for the Reese-Hammond Fire-Brick Company of Bolivar. Still later he was employed in the same capacity by the Enterprise Fire-Brick Company, also of Bolivar. In 1892 Mr. Snyder left home and went to Pittsburgh, where he became stationary engineer and foreman of the foundry for the Velty & McDonald Foundry and Machine Company. After holding this dual position one year he returned to Bolivar and worked as laborer and assistant foreman on the Conemaugh Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. This employment he retained until October 15, 1896, when he became assistant agent at Brinton Station, on the Pittsburgh Division. Thence he was transferred to Turtle Creek, where he held the position of chief clerk in the passenger and freight office. The next promotion which awaited Mr. Snyder was to the post of agent at Crabtree, where he served eighteen months. He was then transferred in the same capacity to New Florence, where he remained until July 3, 1907, when he became agent at Bolivar.
In addition to his identification with railroad interests, Mr. Snyder was president of the Millwood Farm and Fuel Company, coal operators, at Millwood, and was interested in the one hundred acre homestead farm in Fairfield township.
He was a Republican and for two terms filled the office of borough clerk. He belonged to the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief Association and the Mutual Benefit Association of Railroad Employees. His fraternal affiliations were with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Wilkinsburg; Bolivar Council, No. 2071, Royal Arcanum; Bolivar Camp, No. 425, Woodmen of the World, and Speer Orr Camp, No. 14, Sons of Veterans, of Johnstown.
