General Notes: Husband - Henry Franklin Wissinger

He was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and was about five years old when the family removed to Westmoreland County. It was in the schools of Cook and Donegal townships that he received his education. His first employment was on the farm of John Hood, in Cook township, where he worked for a period of five years and three months. He also served an apprenticeship to the carpenter's trade. At the time of his marriage, he returned to the homestead and became the assistant of his father, taking charge of the estate for four years. On the death of his father the farm, which consisted of one hundred and eighty acres, was divided, Henry Franklin receiving ninety of the original tract. This included some timber land. He engaged extensively in the raising of stock.
In the sphere of politics Mr. Wissinger departed from the traditions of his family, attaching himself to the Republican party. For eighteen years he served as school director, for one year filled the office of tax collector, and for ten years he was retained by his fellow-citizens as supervisor. As an auctioneer, Mr. Wissinger achieved a reputation, successfully conducteding a number of sales. He affiliated with Ligonier Lodge, No. 331, Free and Accepted Masons, and was a charter member, trustee and color-bearer of Ligonier Camp, Sons of Veterans. He was identified with the Methodist Episcopal church of Stahlstown, in which for many years he served as steward.
