General Notes: Husband - Krickbaum Turner

When he went to do for himself, his father gave him a farm adjoining his brother James', near the head of Sandy Lake. He worked on this farm a year, boarding with his brother, and then left it. The next year he spent on the homestead with his father. He then gave him one-hundred acres west of the homestead on which he lived a year when he traded places with his brother Esbon, and finally he settled on a tract of one-hundred acres just north of the old homestead line, on which he lived till his death.

He, with his brothers, Alexander and Esbon assisted a neighbor, Mr. John Vernam, at a log rolling. After supper, as the men were getting ready to return home, there was the usual amount of good-natured, boisterous mirth and jollity. Some were playing with a ball. It being during the excitement attending the Mexican war, they had dubbed his brother, Alexander, "Old Santa Anna," and were trying to hit him with the ball. Esbon was on horse-back ready to start for home. Krickbaum, in sport, approached him remarking, "I am an older man than you so I'll pull you off and ride home myself." Just then the horse became frightened at the ball and sprang aside, striking Krickbaum, causing his death within twenty-four hours, doubtless from the rupture of some internal organ as the stomach or liver.
