He was but two years told when his father died. He remained at home until he was of age, when he went to Jackson County, Iowa, where he remained two years. He then returned home again and lived six years with his mother. After marriage, he remained on the homestead eight years longer, then sold his interest in the estate and bought a farm of fifty acres. After two years, he sold this and bought fifty-seven acres.
