General Notes: Husband - Thomas Smith
He was born four miles northeast of Bedford, Pennsylvania. He removed to Westmoreland County with his parents and engaged in farming with his father until 1806, when he came into possession of a part of his father's land and at the death of the latter purchased the home farm. He was a whig and a member of the "Seceder" church for many years, but near the close of his life joined the United Presbyterian church.
He settled in Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, when land could be bought for one dollar per acre. He purchased a large tract which he cultivated and which he later divided into farms for his three sons.
