General Notes: Husband - Thomas Smith
He was the founder of the American branch of the Smith family which was principally resident in the Ligonier Valley of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
When a young man he came to America and purchased a cargo of flaxseed, which he took back with him and disposed of at such a price as to clear a very respectable sum from his investment. He was well pleased with what he saw of America and soon after returning to his native island closed up his business affairs and immigrated to Pennsylvania, where he settled in Bedford County. In 1794 he removed to Ligonier township, Westmoreland County, and patented three hundred and fifty acres of land.
