General Notes: Husband - John Beighley

He was born in Maryland of German parentage, came to Connoquenessing township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, with his brothers and commenced work on the land which was to be his farm, in 1796. In 1798, he moved his family there from Westmoreland County.

A house erected by John Beighle in 1798, with a chimney in it, built in 1799, is still [1883] standing and is now the home of his grandson. In this house was taught one of the first schools in Butler County. Here was also the place of worship of the German people in early times. A log barn, built by John Beighle in 1805, is still [1883] in use. This barn was floored and a roof put on in 1806. The floor was made of puncheons. While the men were at work laying it, the great solar eclipse occurred, and candles had to be brought to enable them to continue. [HBC 1883, 185]

Of his siblings, he came first to Butler County, Pennsylvania, [from Westmoreland County?] in 1796 and in 1798 moved there with his wife. He bought and later patented a 400 acre tract of land in what later became Connoquenessing and Lancaster townships, on which he lived until his death.
Later in life he bought a tract of land, known as the Chamberlain tract, west of the original 400 acres; also one in Muddycreek Township on which his daughter Susan later lived; and 106 acres east and south of his home in Connoquenessing Township and south of Mt. Nebo Church.
From the Chamberlain tract, he donated the lands on which the Old Stone Church and the cemetery in Lancaster later stood. The church building was erected in 1829. Previous to the erection of the church, services were held in the barn on the old homestead in Connoquenessing Township. [HBC 1927, 1314]

He served in the Revolutionary War as a private from Pennsylvania, Northampton County, Fourth Company, Eighth Class. Reference-Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume 8, Page 311.
In the War of 1812, he served as a private in Captain Boston's Rifle Company of 138th Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia under command of Lieutenant Robert Miller, order of Major General Mead, January 1-February 22, 1814. Reference-Pennsylvania Archives, Sixth Series, Volume 2, Page 95.
