General Notes: Husband - Conrad Beighley
He was born on the sea during the passage of his parents from Germany to America. [HBC 1883, ]
He sailed from Stuttgart, Germany, on the good ship Halifax and arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 22, 1754. Upon arriving in America, his fortunes were thrown in with a family named Wiles of Frederick County, Maryland, to whom he was bound as blacksmith apprentice. Conrad remained with Mr. Wiles until 1764 when he married Margareta, second eldest daughter of his employer. John or Johanis, the oldest child, was born in 1765. In 1790 he married Catherine Bachmann, daughter of Lieutenant Henry Bachmann. There were eleven other children in Conrad's family: Susan or Shusey, who married Nicholas Milliron; Henry, who married Catherine Milliron; Jacob, who married Sarah Lenhart, Elizabeth or Betsy, who did not marry; Peter, who married Susan Milliron; Catherine or Cassie, who married Henry Baumgartner; George, who married Christina Hoover; Adam, who married Miss Bixler; Mary or Polly, whose marriage is not mentioned; Daniel, who married Elizabeth Schreck; William, who married Annie Myers.
In 1773 Conrad Beighley with his wife and four children moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Here he remained one year, then made his way back to the Wiles and Bachmann relatives in Northhampton County, his wife's younger sisters having returned there at the death of their mother. Here they lived for ten long years throughout the fierce struggle of our country for its independence. Here Conrad and his young son John both served their country beside their cousins Lieutenant Henry Bachmann and Peter Bachmann. We find in the Archives of Pennsylvania, Fifth Series, Volume 8, Page 333, the record of Conrad's service, also reference to that of his eldest son John. At the close of the Revolution he was allotted 150 acres in Westmoreland County for his military services. This record is found in Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, Volume 26, Page 397. Here Conrad Beighley and his wife Margareta lived until their death; here their children were married; here their church records are found; and here is recorded Conrad's last will and testament.
He served in the Revolutionary War as a private from Pennsylvania, Northampton County, First Company of Captain Wagner, Fourth Class, under Lieutenant Bachmann, command of Philip Boehm, 1782. Reference-Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume 8, Page 333.
His children, John, Heinrich, Jacob, Peter, Catherine, George, and William are known to have removed to Butler County.
