General Notes: Husband - James Marshall


He was educated in the public schools; removed to Illinois prior to 1861. Served in the Civil War, enlisting October 22, 1861, for a term of three years for service and was inducted into service October 31, 1861 at Chicago, IL. He was assigned to duty as Private, Co. K, 55th IL Infantry. He re-enlisted as a veteran March 31, 1864, at Larkin's Landing, AL, and was assigned to duty in the same Company. He was mustered out of the service as Sergeant, August 14, 1865, at Little Rock, AR.
His description at the time he enlisted, October 22, 1861, was: Age 26 years; height, 5 feet, 9½ inches; hair, black; eyes, brown; complexion, dark; occupation, cabinet maker; nativity, Mercer County, PA; residence, Abingdon, Knox County, IL.
He removed to Columbus, KS, in 1875, where he resided until his death. He was a carpenter and worked at his trade until a few years before his death. He had never had a day of sickness during his long life and at the age of 91 years read without the aid of glasses. He was a great reader and was well posted on current events. He was a member of I. O. O. F. and G. A. R.
