Unfavorable reports given out a few days ago concerning the condition of Lyman A. Hitchcock, aged 74 years, well-known resident of Sandycreek township, were confirmed by his death at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening at his home on the Pittsburgh road. He had been confined to his bed for the past four months and failing gradually.
Mr. Hitchcock was born in Franklin on February 22, 1854, and was a lifelong resident of Franklin and vicinity except for part of his boyhood when he lived in Kansas. He followed the occupations of farmer and oil driller and 40 years ago was chief of police of Franklin. Surviving him are his wife and five children: Charles F. Hitchcock, of Victory; Donald Hitchcock, of Pittsburgh; Edward Hitchcock, of Vernon, Texas; Mrs. Pearl Bean, of Franklin, and Mrs. Emma Graham, of Bully Hill. Also one sister, Mrs. Ellis Bond, of Renfrew, Butler county, and one brother, F. E. Hitchcock, of Coraopolis.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He married Ida Minerva White on May 6, 1877.
Mr. Hitchcock was a member of the Evangelical church for many years. With Mrs. Hitchcock he celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.
Funeral services will be held at the home on the Pittsburgh Road on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will follow in the Graham cemetery, Bully Hill.
