General Notes: Husband - William C. James

After he had attained his seventeenth year he attended the McElwain Institute at New Lebanon, PA, for two years, and he then taught one term of school. After his father’s death the management of the farm as well as the educating of the younger children fell upon his young shoulders, but he met all his obligations and advancing years won for him success as an agriculturist. In connection with his large farm he also operated a dairy, one of the few in that vicinity, and he made the dairy one of the special features of his business. He followed in his father’s footsteps as an active Republican worker, and he was honored with all of the township offices, and he was the secretary of the school board and in 1905 he was elected a justice of the peace. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder. He was a member of the Knights and Ladies of Honor
in New Vernon.
