General Notes: Husband - Dr. Moses Hartman
As a child he attended the local public schools, and after completing his education became associated with his father in the operation of the latter's farm. He read medicine with Dr. Fuhnenburg, of Somerset, Somerset county, Pennsylvania. He later studied at the Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, from which he graduated with his medical degree, and immediately after returned to Westmoreland County and settled at Stahlstown, Cook township. Here he was engaged in the general practice of his profession for nearly thirty years. Eventually, however, he removed to Ligonier, where he remained for three years, and from there came to Fairfield township, where he bought the old Allen Hamill farm, a valuable property consisting of one hundred and ninety-eight acres of good farm land. He later sold sixty-three of these acres to his son, Frank Hartman, while his son Edgar Cowan Hartman owned and lived on the balance. The Hamills had built a substantial brick house on this place, together with all necessary farm buildings. It was here that Dr. Moses Hartman died.
He was a staunch Republican in politics, and took part in the affairs of Fairfield township. He was a school director, township treasurer, and held other local offices. He was a member of the Presbyterian church there, and of Ligonier Lodge, No. 331, Free and Accepted Masons.
