General Notes: Husband - Samuel Hill Wineland

He was born in Unity township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and attended the common schools of Fairfield township. Until the age of seventeen he assisted his father on the farm and then went to Pittsburgh, where he was employed in the steel mills of Jones & Laughlin, later working in different capacities in other mills and in the works at New Kensington. After ten years of this life, however, inherited inclination asserted itself and Mr. Wineland returned to the surroundings of his boyhood. He became sole owner of the family homestead, buying out the other heirs, and then devoted himself to general farming, also engaging successfully in stock-raising. He had on his land a coal bank which he operated with advantageous results. While a true Republican, Mr. Wineland had neither time nor inclination for office-holding. He rendered a qualified allegiance to the doctrines of Presbyterianism and attended the Fairfield church of that denomination.
