General Notes: Husband - Hardy Hill Wineland

He was born at Oakville, Unity township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and there received his education at the subscription schools. His father's property was where the city of Latrobe would later stand, and he helped the elder man clear it of its original growth of forest. At a later age he purchased a part of this home farm, but afterwards married and removed to a property which he hired. Still later he bought a farm of one hundred and forty acres in Fairfield township. He engaged in general farming and stock-raising there, and met with a high degree of success. He was a Republican in politics, and a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church.

He married, when he was twenty-eight years old, and brought up his family of nine children on a farm which he rented and on which he lived for twenty-five years. During this time he saved enough money to purchase a farm for himself. That was known as the Isaac Robb farm, and there his son, Sam Hill Wineland, later lived.
