General Notes: Husband - Archibald Newell

He was born in County Down, Ireland, and when twenty years of age came to America, making his way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he became employed on the surveying corps of the canal through the Mahoning Valley. Eventually, he settled in Mahoningtown as one of its earliest citizens. He was for many years the proprietor of the leading store in that place, but at last retired from active work, leaving his business to his sons.

He was born and reared to the age of nineteen years in Ireland. He then crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Canada, later making his way to Pennsylvania and there became a member of the engineering corps that assisted in making the survey for the old Erie Canal. He later established his home at Mahoningtown, where he embarked in a general mercantile business, about 1841, being one of the pioneers in that line in the village. In 1870 he built a store building that his son, A. D. Newell, later occupied, and continued in business for some ten years following, when he retired. At this time his sons, A. D. and J. D. F. Newell, took over the business.

General Notes: Wife - Mary L. Frisbee
