General Notes: Husband - Samuel Frisbee
He was a native of the state of Connecticut, he was married the first time in New Haven, and after the death of his wife, he came to Pittsburgh in 1809, in the interest of Robert Fulton, and was instrumental in building the first fleet of steamers that plied the Western rivers.
He was of New England birth and was an early settler in Taylor Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. He built the first substantial steamboat ever constructed in Pittsburgh, having been sent there by Robert Fulton. The "Kate Frisbee" was originally intended for service on the Sacramento River, in California, and was taken there by a sailing ship around Cape Horn, but for some reason it was never devoted to that service, and after its return it was utilized for many years on the Lower Mississippi River.
He owned a farm, purchased from a Dr. Pollock, which later adjoined West Pittsburgh, but he was not satisfied with the quiet of an agricultural life and shortly afterward returned to Pittsburgh, where his activity continued until his death.
