General Notes: Husband - Robert Sloan Cowden

He was born on the home farm in Mt. Pleasant township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, receiving his education in the subscription schools of the vicinity. He later inherited the old homestead of 260 acres, to which he added about as much by purchase, all being in a good state of cultivation. He devoted considerable attention to stock, raising a high grade of Black-top Merino sheep. In politics he voted the Republican ticket, and in church relations he and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church at Venice.

He attended the district schools in Mt. Pleasant Township when his services could be spared from the home farm, which estate he later inherited. He acquired other property and until he controlled 400 acres. He was a stockholder in the Houstonville National Bank. He was never been willing to accept any office except that of school director. In polities he was a Republican.
