General Notes: Husband - Samuel Chess

He received but little schooling, and that of a crude character, but by hard and faithful work became a true master farmer and resided on the old homestead until his marriage, when he removed to Salem Township and located on a new claim, which later became the farm of one of his sons. After his father's death, in 1812, John, a son of the deceased, took charge of the old Sandy Creek homestead, and at the latter's death Samuel Chess returned from Salem Township to assume the management held by his brother. He was an active member of the Methodist church and, although a firm Republican, never was a party worker or a seeker after office. [HMC 1909, 984]
