General Notes: Husband - James Campbell

He was a native of County Antrim, Ireland, of Scotch extraction. In 1801, with his wife and three children, he immigrated to America and settled near Kennet Square, Chester county, Pennsylvania. He worked by the day, as he could find employment, until 1811, when the family moved to Lancaster county, and settled on a rented farm in Dunmore township. In 1818 the family moved to Washington county, and six years later to Allegheny county. In 1828 Mr. Campbell purchased a farm in Middlesex township, Butler county, upon which he located the same year and began the work of making a home in the unbroken forest. Here he continued to reside until his death. He and his wife were strict Presbyterians, and among the respected people of the community.

He lived in the parish of Ballemony, County Antrim, Ireland, and emigrated to America in 1801, settling in Chester County, Pennsylvania, near Kennett Square. They resided in Kennett Square for ten years, and then removed to Dunmore township, Lancaster County, Joseph Taylor, the father of Bayard Taylor, the famous author and diplomat, being the one who hauled their household goods when they moved. Sarah and Margaret, two maiden sisters of James, continued to live with the family until they died. In 1818 James Campbell moved with his family to Herriottsville, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and afterward to a place called Lee, Allegheny County, where they attended Bethany Church, the pastoral charge of Rev. Dr. Jeffry. In 1828 he removed to Middlesex township, Butler County, having purchased a farm at that place. Previous to this his son James had gone to the new farm with one of his aunts and his sister Ellen, and had superintended the building of the house in which they or some of their descendants lived thereafter.
