General Notes: Husband - Judge George Van Ness Yates


He was a manufacturer and dealer in harness, and was elected sheriff of Warren County, Pennsylvania, in 1855. He also served as judge of the county for one term, and was president of the First National Bank of Corry.

He was the first justice of the peace in Columbus, Warren County, Pennsylvania, and held that position for five years, conducting the affairs of that office with strict integrity, and showing no partiality whatever. In 1855 he was further honored by being elected sheriff of Warren County, being the first Republican sheriff ever elected in that county. Later he was elected associate judge of Warren County, and served five years. He was appointed judge advocate of the state militia, and served as president of the First National Bank of Corry, Pennsylvania, for several years.
