General Notes: Husband - Robert Smith Jamison

Considering the period and the place, he received an excellent education, spending his boyhood on his father's farm, and being trained in the wholesome life incidental to farming. He became a landholder soon after reaching his majority, and throughout his entire life he followed that vocation, although he later turned his attention to other enterprises. But his love of farming was genuine and he was recognized in the community as a leader in scientific methods for improving his land. He was a man of strong character, with an impulse toward progress, an impulse which he carried into that most conservative of all vocations, agriculture, and he was one of the very first to employ labor and time-saving machinery on his land. He also followed the experiments which were being made with cattle, and was very successful in introducing new and better strains into his live stock. In the Westmoreland Agricultural Society, he was a leading member, having been one of the group who founded it and for a number of years its president.
In 1880, he and a number of associates began to buy up coal lands in Westmoreland County, and for a period of twenty years they continued to purchase, until they had become the holders of very extensive and valuable properties. Events have proved that their prophetic vision was practical and sound. Mr. Jamison took a very active part in the development of this industry, and at the time of his death was president and one of the largest stockholders in the coke and coal company that bore his name, later presided over by his son, John Martin Jamison.
He held his membership in the Second Reformed Church, of Greensburg, and for many years was one of its officers.
He died in Redlands, California, where he had gone for his health.
