---

His chief occupation was farming, conducting his operations on the farm purchased by his father, and in this way he provided a comfortable home for his family. He served as school director, supervisor, and justice of the peace, in the latter capacity performing the marriage ceremony for many persons in Penn township.
He was formerly a whig and abolitionist, and became a republican.
