He and his wife were both members of the Sugar Creek Grange Patrons of Husbandry, along with the Lesh's. He was in the lumber business.

A fall from a table when she was a new baby caused her to be a hunched cripple all her life. She never let this handicap get in her way. She taught a one-room school for a number of years and was an excellent teacher respected by all her pupils and addition to this she led a very active family life with her husband and seven children. She was killed when she was riding with her daughter in Meadville and a car ran into them after running a red light.
