General Notes: Husband - Eri Dewoody
He was a blacksmith and grocer in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
He enlisted on November 1, 1861, in Company H, Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry, and served as company blacksmith until discharged 9 January 1863 on a surgeon's certificate of disability. In 1862 he was treated for dropsy and other ailments for four months in a military hospital in Washington. He was with Company H during the Seven Day's battle before Richmond beginning June 26, 1862, but in his anemic condition, the long hours over a hot forge and the hard work of shoeing horses during the resupply of the regiment following the withdrawal from Yorktown to Washington, left him so exhausted that he couldn't march to Antietam, where his regiment, in the bloodiest single day's fighting of the war, 17 September 1862, lost its commander.
