General Notes: Husband - Robert Culbertson
He first owned a farm in "Culbertson's Row", then in 1773 sold this farm, 300 acres in Letterkenny Township, and moved to Brownsville, Pennsylvania, where he lived for a year. He then tried to repurchase his farm in the Row, but, failing in this, bought a farm at the foot of South Mountain, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, (several miles from Row) where he died. Letters of administration were issued to his wife, Feb. 11, 1778. (Lived in Guilford Twp.) Later she married Mathew Sharp and he was appointed administrator. Sale bill returned March, 1778, showed bonds and Congress Money valued at £1180. In final account filed 1783 it states that the bonds were used to purchase the property of the heirs. They purchased property in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1789. They sold the Guilford Township farm in 1792 when they moved to Allegheny County. Robert owned a farm in Letterkenny Township (Row) as it was on the tax list Cumberland County, 1779 as "Elizabeth, widow and 1782-85 Roberts heirs." Descendants say that Robert was killed at the Battle of Brandywine (autumn of 1777) but this is unlikely to be true as administrator was not appointed until February, 1778. Possibly he was wounded there and death resulted therefrom.
