General Notes: Husband - George Deems

He was born in West Pike Run township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he was reared to agricultural pursuits, which were his life vocation. He was successful in all his undertakings, and could justly claim a place on the noble roll of self-made men of the county, as from the bottom rung of the ladder he, unaided, worked his way up to the top. The first labor he was employed in was breaking stone on the National pike, and by industry and thrift he became the owner of four of the finest farms of his township.
Politically he was first a Whig and "Freesoiler," later a solid Republican; in religious connection he was a member of the M. E. Church, as was also his wife.

General Notes: Wife - Eliza Ann Sharp

At one time her father owned a fulling mill on Little Pike run, near what is known as the White Hall school-house in Washington County, Pennsylvania. When she was a small girl, he moved the family to Holmes County, Ohio, where her mother died, and she (Eliza) then came to Pennsylvania to live with her uncle, Lewis Baker, in West Pike Run township, Washington County.
