When a mere child, in 1875, his parents moved to Grove City, Pennsylvania. He was educated at the schools of Grove City and having chosen law for a profession, he matriculated at Ann Arbor (Michigan) University, graduating therefrom with the class of 1896. He practiced law in Pittsburgh about four years and then located in Grove City. Politically, Mr. McConkey was a supporter of the Prohibition party, and he was a member of the Presbyterian church.
