He was an active participant in the Civil War, being present at some of the most important battles as a member of the One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. At the close of the war he returned to Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, where he resided for several years. Later he lived in Canton, Ohio.
