General Notes: Husband - William I. Cottom

He was born in Dunbar township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. When six years of age his parents removed to Westmoreland County, and his educational advantages were obtained in the common schools in the neighborhood of his home. He remained with his father on the farm until he attained his majority, after which he began farming for himself on the old homestead, making a specialty of fruit, berries and truck gardening.
He was elected to the office of assessor in 1901, but on account of impaired health was obliged to resign. He was elected in February, 1904, school director for a term of three years and served in the capacity of secretary of the board. In politics Mr. Cottom was a Democrat. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church.
