He was educated in the public school, Monongahela College and Duff's Business College of Pittsburgh, graduate of the class of 1899. He taught school one term at Oakdale, Fayette County, then became bookkeeper for the La Belle Iron and Steel Company, continuing two years, then in that capacity for four years with Cochran Brothers, then January 1, 1911, accepted a position as head bookkeeper with the Wright-Metzler Company.
