General Notes: Husband - James G. Cook

He attended the academy and the common schools in his native town, and then entered the Washington and Jefferson College, sophomore year, from which he was graduated in the class of 1882. After leaving college he took up the study of chemistry and practical pharmacy with a view to establishing himself in the drug business. In 1886 he opened a drug store in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was appointed postmaster by President Benjamin Harrison, was removed under the Democratic administration of President Cleveland, and was re-appointed by President McKinley and President Roosevelt. He was a staunch Republican, and a member of the Presbyterian church.

He was a member of the Salem township school board for many years, on which board he always held the office of secretary. He was a Presbyterian in his religious belief and attended the old church of that denomination in New Alexandria. He was a member of the local lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and active in the work of that order.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Alice Shields

She owned part of the original Shields tract, where she and her husband make their home. Here she was born and here her parents spent their married life, her father erecting a handsome brick house there in 1858.
