He was a native of Germany, who settled on a homestead in Greene township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, about 1804.

He was born in Germany, and was brought to America when but six months old by his parents. They settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He and his father came to Greene township, Beaver County, when he was twenty-one years old, and bought a farm of 212 acres, where he lived and died.
He was eighty years old when he died.

He was a pioneer of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and an Indian scout for a number of years. He was also in the War of 1812, and was a noted hunter and expert shot in his day. He finally settled in Greene township, Beaver County, and engaged in farming, residing there until his death.

He was born in that part of Russia where the German language is spoken most frequently, and was a very young child when he came to America with his parents, who settled in Ohio. In that state he grew to manhood. When he had attained man's estate, he removed near Hookstown, Beaver county, Pennsylvania, where he took up about one hundred and seventy-five acres of land from the government. He cleared this, which was a wilderness when it came into his possession, erected substantial log buildings, a dwelling house, barn, etc., and died on this land in 1840. He was noted as an Indian scout and hunter. [GPHBC, 569]
