General Notes: Husband - David Long Cleeland


After receiving a good English education, he entered the employ of J. R. Snyder, of Harrisville, Butler County, Pennsylvania, with whom he learned the watchmaker's trade, and subse­quently purchased the business. In 1881 he removed to Butler, where he continued the same business, and in 1888 he became a member of the firm of Cleeland & Ralston. This firm conducted business until the fall of 1893, when Mr. Cleeland opened his present commodious jewelry house, in a building purchased by him in 1890, which he remodeled and fitted up for the purpose. He was a professional optician, and held a diploma of graduation awarded him June 15, 1889. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church of Butler, in which body he filled the office of elder. He was connected with Connoquenessing Lodge, I. O. O. F.
