General Notes: Husband - John Carter

He was born near Washington, Pennsylvania, and received a limited education in the schools of Mt. Pleasant township, commencing to work on the farm when only ten years of age. After his marriage he bought a farm where his son later resided, which contained 220 acres, and devoted his time to its cultivation and improvement.

After marriage, he resided on a farm in Mt. Pleasant Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, which was later owned by John M. McIlvaine. He later moved to a farm of 164 acres, in the same township, and there his death occurred. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.
