General Notes: Husband - John Campbell
His father came from Scotland in the beginning of the sixteenth [sic] century, and settled in eastern Pennsylvania or New Jersey, where he died.
About 1780, he came from York County, Pennsylvania, to Washington County, finally settling on a farm of 191 acres, called "Fumanah," in Cross Creek township.
Of the many traditions rife concerning the adventures of John Campbell, the following is told: While he was mowing a small meadow near his house, a sudden and peculiar noise broke the silence; turning hastily he discovered several Indians advancing toward him. He fled to the house, the Indians in hot pursuit, but managed to get inside and bar the door before they could overtake him. He then opened fire on them through the windows and succeeded in driving them away.
He served in the Revolutionary War (probably as a militia lieutenant); re-moved with his family to Washington County, Pennsylvania, about 1780, and settled in Cross Creek township, where he died.
