General Notes: Husband - John Shuey
He was born near Mifflin, Pennsylvania, and was brought by his parents to Westmoreland County when a youth. All his life was devoted to farming, in which he was quite successful. He was a whig and republican in politics but never sought an office; he was identified with the Reformed church. [BHCWC, 695]
He was born near Mifflin, Pennsylvania, and soon after his marriage started for the west. Stopping in Westmoreland County, he was so favorably impressed that he decided to take up his abode there, and with that end in view purchased the farm later owned by E. M. Gross, on the Harrison City road, residing there during the remainder of his days. He was a Whig, but in the latter part of his life became a Republican; his church membership was with the Reformed denomination.
He was able to bequeath a farm to each of his children. [HWC 1906 II, 626]
He came from Mifflin, Pennsylvania, to Westmoreland County soon after his marriage. It was his intention to continue his journey farther westward, but being pleased with the country there, he purchased a farm, later owned by E. M. Gross on the Harrison City road, residing thereon until his death. [HWC 1906 III, 335]
For several reasons, the stories about him from [HWC 1906] seem less likely than that from [BHCWC]. Could those stories relate to his father instead?
Notes: Marriage
They were the parents of five children.
