General Notes: Husband - John C. Caldwell
He was born on his father's farm in the Manor Valley, near the Jim Town works, and passed his childhood and youth in Penn township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Here he secured his early education, attending for this purpose the local public schools, and during the summer holidays becoming familiar with the work of the farm. After leaving school, he turned his entire attention to farming. He continued to assist his father on the latter's place until he had reached the age of twenty-three years, and then was placed in charge of a farm owned by his father in the vicinity of Latrobe. Here he continued to work until the year 1894, when he removed to another farm, located at New Alexandria, also owned by his father. It consisted of one hundred and eight acres of excellent soil, possessing great natural fertility, and this he brought to the very highest state of cultivation, and it came to be regarded as one of the best farms in the neighborhood.
He and all the members of his family were members of the Presbyterian church. In politics he was a Democrat, and he was affiliated with the lcoal lodges of the Woodmen of the World and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at New Alexandria.
