General Notes: Husband - Joseph Bute


He received a very good education and when twenty-five years old removed from the Phillips farm to a farm in Franklin township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
He inherited one hundred acres of land, and over time increased it to five hundred acres, besides owning a tract of 320 acres near Aurora, Nebraska. He was engaged largely in stock raising.
He was always a was always a staunch believer in the principles and teachings of the Jeffersonian Democracy, and was a member of the Baptist church for forty-seven years. He was clerk of the Flatwoods Baptist church beginning in 1862, and deacon beginning in 1863.

He managed to acquire over five hundred acres in Franklin township, and some three thousand acres of land in Nebraska, and at the time of his death was one of the wealthiest men in Franklin township.
