General Notes: Husband - John Bute
He was born in Virginia and when a small boy he removed with his mother and stepfather to near Wheeling, (West) Virginia, but at sixteen years of age left home on account of his stepfather's idleness. After working three years he removed to Upper Middletown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, (then known as "Plumsock") and engaged for a time as bartender with his uncle, Henry Dick. He soon purchased the Pierce farm in Franklin township, where, in 1829, he built a saw-mill and grist-mill.
