General Notes: Husband - Charles Brownfield
He was a native of Scotland, who, with his brother James, emigrated to America and lived for a time near Winchester [Virginia?].
When he and his wife came to South Union township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, they located a tract of land containing 300 acres, which, in a deed of later years, is described as "near Laurel Hill, on one of the head branches of the Redstone, including my improvement made in the year 1769." Warrant No. 3456, dated June 14, 1769, was given for this land, and the survey was made in September of that year. In 1783, Mr. Brownfield sold this property to his son Benjamin, and removed to Kentucky.
He emigrated from Ireland to America before the American Revolution; his parents, Presbyterians, had emigrated from Scotland to Ireland.
The Brownfields were among the earliest settlers of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, having received large grants of land from the two sons of William Penn.
